As an avid internet commenter, I always find comments on the internet of people that live in El Paso talking crap about Chuco Town, “El Paso is so boring” the comments usually read, “There is nothing to do in El Paso” “El Paso sucks” “Meet sexy singles in El Paso” Well, maybe that last one is for something else, but you get the point… I understand that after living in any city for so long you get that feeling that you’ve seen and done everything that particular city has to offer. So I decided to take it into my own hands and find out what El Paso has to offer and after hours of grueling research (meaning 30 minutes of googling El Paso, 45 minutes of porn surfing and then a well deserved nap) I came up with 5 unique things El Paso has to offer, and while you might have visited some of these before I bet you pesos to dollars that you can always find something new or something you haven’t done before. Use this handy system to know if the place is suited to you:
Catch the Viva El Paso show Have you ever wondered what happened to that overachieving theater geek that was in your class back in high school? Well if he didn’t become a famous celebrity he’s probably part of Viva El Paso! Viva El Paso is like watching a History Channel TV series about the history of El Paso if it was directed by a gay musical director with a bad case of ADD, and I totally mean that in the best and most awesome way possible. With great musical numbers, storytelling, and drama it has something for everyone. It’s like watching a movie, play, and a music concert all in one; and with updates done every season you are sure to experience something new every time you go see the show.
Go see the animals at the El Paso Zoo Whoever says Zoos are just for kids has probably never googled “poop flinging monkey” because every time I see one of those vids it makes me want to go to the zoo and watch it live… seriously, who needs videos when you can go to the zoo and witness it your self! Be sure to bring a camera, who knows? Maybe you will catch a glimpse of monkeys touching themselves inappropriately in front of children and who can put a price on millions of hits on YouTube. You might also want to know that the Zoo is always adding new exhibits and attractions, so you might find something new every time you go!

Watch some live comedy Ok maybe a little bias on this (I do write for a comedy website) but comedy is awesome! And I know with Comedy Central people think they can watch standup comedy whenever they want, but let me tell you something, comedy is always better live, uncensored, and in your face! (Just like it’s better to see monkeys flinging poop in person than in a YouTube video) Plus on TV you never see the hecklers in the audience that make every show unique, or the opening and feature act and also the on the spot jokes that come with any live audience. Sometimes you get to see a comedian bomb, (bombing is the term used when comedians don’t get any laughs, I think I heard it described once as “the sound of a cricket riding a tumbleweed”) and that is one of the funniest things you will ever see….

Take a ride on Scenic Drive Scenic drive is the spot in El Paso to go for a nice evening drive with the family or significant other, and is also the best place for pictures showing off the Sun City. But if you find that boring you might also want to know that, if you own high powered binoculars like I do, Scenic Drive is the best place to see all the stuff going on in Juarez from a safe distance.

Go to Western Playland Located in central El Paso in beautiful Ascarate Park… this aweso… wait… what? THEY MOVED IT? Casino? When did this happen? Ok… Well Western Playland is located in the City of Sunland Park right in front of the Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino, so I guess we can’t really call it an El Paso thing, but since we are not picky and we don’t want to do any additional research we will leave it on the list. Western Playland’s safety record may not be the best, but if you are a real thrill seeker this only enhances the experience, sure other parks make you believe that their rides are scary, but deep down you know that the possibility of an accident is only minimal, but when you are on the El Bandido you’re never sure. One poster put it best “That old bucket of rusted bolts is still running? Dudes, you're taking your life in your own hands by riding it. Hell, any ride at Western Playland is a hazard to your health. Make sure your tetanus shots are up to date in case you get a scrape or a cut on one of their rides!” That’s how we roll in El Paso!
